Grace United Church In Person Worship Service COVID-19 Protocols

In order to attend in person services you must complete this form:

We welcome you back to in-person Worship Services at Grace. Worship begins at 10:00 am sharp as it will be live-streamed. Please plan to arrive by 9:45 am.

Each person needs to complete a registration form as we need to collect information for contact tracing purposes in order to inform attendees in the event of a COVID-19 exposure.  Registration will be open on Monday at noon and will close on Friday at noon.

Attendees will be required to:

  • show proof of double COVID-19 vaccination if eligible,
  • OR proof of valid medical exemption,
  • OR proof of participation in COVID-19 vaccine trial
  • OR negative rapid COVID test. Children less than 12 years are exempted.

Children can go to the Kids’ Program, if offered, or will be given activity kits that they can use while seated with their parent/adult companion in the sanctuary.

If you are eligible for COVID vaccination and cannot show proof please plan to arrive at 9:30 am and you will be offered a ‘rapid COVID test’ (free of charge). Please Note: Rapid COVID-19 tests are only suitable for asymptomatic unvaccinated individuals.

Individuals with any symptoms should book an appointment online for a COVID-19 PCR test at a COVID-19 testing centre using the link: https://covidtesting.josephbranthospital.ca/ or call (905) 632-3737, extension 6550 (M-F 8:00 am – 4:00 pm).

Please read and understand the following protocols before you attend a service.

Congregants will:

  1. Congregants will preregister in advance to create a record of attendance. This will be done by completing an online form by Friday at 12 Noon to reserve a seat for the following Sunday.
  2. Congregants will be required to show proof of double COVID-19 vaccination if eligible or proof of valid medical exemption, OR proof of participation in COVID-19 vaccine trial OR negative rapid COVID test. Children less than 12 years are exempted.
  3. Follow all local, provincial and federal COVID-19 protocols when in the church building
  4. Before leaving home, self-assess for fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, generally feeling unwell.
  5. Stay home if symptomatic.
  6. Clean hands with the sanitizer located on entry and exit
  7. Wear a mask at all times while inside the building
  8. Practice respiratory etiquette (cough or sneeze into your elbow or a tissue)
  9. Have their name and contact information listed on a record of attendance that will be kept in the church office for potential contact tracing by Public Health if an exposure occurs
  10. Please be sensitive to those people who need a larger zone of personal space to feel comfortable
  11. Do NOT use the coat room. Keep all personal belongings with you and do not place them on common surfaces such as tables or countertops.
  12. Do NOT use the kitchenette
  13. Do NOT have shared food or drink –bring their own if necessary

Worship Volunteers will:

  1. Confirm proof of COVID-19 vaccination OR exemption validation
  2. Confirm name, and contact information of those entering the building from the sheet of preregistered people as received from the church office.
  3. File the record in the church office for potential contact tracing by Public Health if an exposure occurs

 Nursery:

  1. Parents with children too young for Kid’s Program to proceed to the Nelson Room upon entry for duration of service,
  2. Toys have been removed and parents are asked to bring one of the child’s favourite toys with them
  3. Capacity limit to maintain 2 metre distance is 3 adults with 1 child each

 Kid’s Program:

  1. Parents to take children to Kids Program for drop off upon entry for duration of Sunday Worship
  2. Hand hygiene for children upon arrival, assist if necessary
  3. Masks to be worn if greater than 2 years old.
  4. Masks for Coordinators, add face shield if desired
  5. 2 children per kiddie table, spaced apart
  6. If there is no Kid’s Program available, children will sit in the sanctuary with their accompanying adult. Individual activity kits will be available. 

Bulletins: No bulletins will be provided.

 Singing:

  1. There will be audio or video recordings instead of live singing
  2. There will be NO choir
  3. There will be NO singing or chanting, humming is permitted
  4. Instrumental music or pre-recorded music only, NO wind instruments
  5. Soloists can perform if behind a plexi-glass barrier

Passing the Peace:

  1. While remaining at your seat, offer a phrase or press your own hands together in a prayerful bow

Offering:

  1. Offering invitation and prayer of dedication will be included in Worship, with information / links on how to contribute
  2. Offering plates will NOT be passed among the congregation, and there will NOT be a procession of offering
  3. Offerings will NOT be taken / submitted during in person Worship at this time. Options to support the work of Grace United will continue to be :
    1. By cheque, made out to Grace United Church and mailed to Grace United Church
    2. By e-transfer at donations@GraceUnitedChurchBurlington.com

Communion:

  1. Prepackaged individual communion elements will be provided. They are not gluten free. Please bring your own cracker if you are gluten intolerant.

OR

  1. Congregants will bring their own elements of bread or cracker and juice

Maintenance:

  1. Ceiling fans will remain OFF
  2. Windows and doors will remain open while the building is occupied when weather permits to improve ventilation
  3. Deep cleaning and disinfection will be completed routinely. A checklist will be used to record compliance and to create a record of disinfection

For those entering the building  for Committees, Groups or other activities:

  • Communicate with the church office by email or phone ONLY
  • Do NOT access the church office

If you are a member of Grace United Church and would like to hold a meeting/event for your committee/ group, please contact the office.  Once the office has completed the agreement it will be sent to you for your signature.  Please note everyone will be  required to sign a Terms of Use Agreement.
